DURHAM, N.C. (April 30, 2009) – Wesbell Technologies awarded Parata Systems its
“Environmental Stewardship Award” today for achieving a significant recycling milestone:
recycling more than one million pounds of material. Parata is one of only two companies in
the Triangle that Wesbell has recognized for the achievement. Since January 2007, Parata has
provided more than 2.2 million pounds of excess material that Wesbell recycles into new
commodities, material that would otherwise be headed to a landfill. More than 70 percent of
the recycled material was plastic.
“Parata’s focus on the environment is not only good corporate citizenship, it also makes
good business sense,” says Parata’s David Thoma, vice president of manufacturing and
operations. “It’s less expensive to recycle this material than to dispose it in a landfill. We’ve
saved money in disposal fees, storage and transportation.”
“Wesbell seeks to partner with companies like Parata who are making a difference in their
communities with smart recycling choices,” says Nick Mazze, chief operating officer at
Wesbell. “Parata’s accomplishment sets a new benchmark in the industry for environmental
responsibility and stewardship.”
With its “zero landfill initiative,” Wesbell diverted more than 8.5 million pounds of excess
material from landfills in 2008. Recycled plastic derived from Wesbell is used to manufacture
items such as automotive accessories, packaging material, furniture and apparel.
The award presented to Parata is made from recycled material and designed by renowned
Canadian artist Andrew Kuntz. Wesbell presented Parata the award today at Parata’s
Operations Center in Durham.
